It is the need to sustain and further develop the capacity of the Nigerian Army and enhance the performance of her peacekeepers that necessitated the establishment of the Peacekeeping Wing (PKW), Infantry Corps Centre and School on 13 September 2004. Considering the future or long term perceptions of the critical role the NA would continue to play in cotemporary peacekeeping and the need to have a PSO training centre of international standard, the PKW was upgraded and made an autonomous training institution of the Nigerian Army with effect from 9 January 2009 with the name Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre (NAPKC). In doing this, due cognisance was given to the overriding need to ensure that Nigerian peacekeepers are placed on the same pedestal of professional competence in accordance with UN requirement. The United States and UK were the main supporters that saw the translation of the dream to have the NAPKC established into a reality. NAPKC remains grateful for their initial and continuing support and commitment to the further development of the Centre. |
